“Dead Funfair”: Vacant Rides and Empty Streets at Germany’s Hamburger Dom

Photographer Arne Faschinka, from Hamburg, Germany, took these photos of a Dead Funfair. The Hamburger Dom pictured here is Germany’s biggest fair, with three seasonal, month-long events a year. I think it’s fascinating, but also a bit melancholy, to see an empty, deserted carnival like this. The bright colors of the fair’s closed booths and rides are offset by the foggy atmosphere and desaturated look. The decorative skeleton in one of the pictures also reinforces the idea of the funfair as “dead”.
