You know those inspirational quotes you see splattered all over the internet? Well if you love good typography and design as I do, you know they often make one want to claw my eyes out with their terrible or cliché graphics. These inspirational messages actually demonstrate beautiful, hand-drawn typography, however.
Stefan Kunz creates amazing hand-written lettering to display these quotes, which are displayed over interesting photos. Kunz designs the type using markers or brushes, and then digitizes them using iPhone apps. The photography is also well suited for this use: the images show people in stunning natural settings, but with colourful skies providing a “canvas” of interesting patterns that don’t overpower the lettering. He makes a variety of letter forms, from curvy calligraphy to blocky modern handwriting. Many of the sayings are Biblical or inspired by the artist’s Christian faith.
