Many of the portraits in People I Know combine photography with other aspects of digital art. Jon Jacobsen‘s ongoing project shows his interpretation of people that he admires or finds interesting. There is an element of the unexpected, the symbolic, in each person’s portrait. One contains illustration of a mythical creature, while another shows a ceramic plate being smashed on the subject’s head. Most also contain a simple background and desaturated color scheme that allow the surreal elements to blend seamlessly with the realistic parts. “As a child I wanted to be an astronaut, but now I create whole universes,” Jacobsen says of his work. Jacobsen, from Santiago, Chile, is a graphic designer and self-taught photographer whose work has been featured in publications worldwide including Vogue Italia and the Yale Globalist.
