Gymnastic Illustrations and Mountains Collide in Aleksandr Bychenko’s Collages

These Pslm 151 Illustrations by Aleksandr Bychenko, a Ukrainian graphic designer, were featured in Ozdobnyk Dumok i Dii, which are scrapbooks of visual and text content that also includes blank space for the reader’s own notes and drawings.

These digital collages have a consistent design: Each is a square black-and-white photo, with a circular color photo in its center. The landscapes the photos show are similar, but not the exactly same (for example, they are two different perspectives of the same mountain). Each landscape is overlaid with a black line drawing, which look like old-time woodcut illustrations. These are of young boys performing acrobatic or gymnastic feats such as hanging from rings, climbing a rope, or dismounting a pommel horse.
