Levi van Veluw explores the ideas of chaos and destruction in his multi-media project The Collapse of Cohesion. I find it very interesting how the artist has maintained the same distinct, detailed style in both the videos and the charcoal drawings in this series. The videos are shot in extreme slow motion, and they stretch what would happen in a few seconds to around ten minutes’ time.
The images show desks and chairs being blown apart, as well as shelves full of geometric shapes (spheres and icosahedrons) collapsing for no apparent reason. From the artist’s statement: “Human structures are affected by forces of nature such as gravity, water and wind and in this way realigned into a new, natural order of things.”
