Expressionist Landscapes of “Lost Places” by Raphaëlle Martin

Lost Places - Art by Raphaelle Martin

Lost Places by Raphaëlle Martin is a series of landscape illustrations. Each is minimalist, with one or two small buildings and two large blocks of color to represent land and sky. However, these color blocks are not totally solid: each painting has an individual pattern of white scuffs and scratch marks over the entire piece, which adds a unique character to the work. They appear to be made using digital painting techniques, but the scratches make them seem more like a traditional painting that can be altered or damaged in that way. The colors used are bright and not always naturalistic. Martin is from Germany.
