Dones d’aigua (Water Women) and Into the Water – Dones d’aigua II are a series of works by Sonia Alins Miguel. Each is made up of line drawings of women, who are mostly nude and Rubenesque. These figures are then cut out and layered with cut translucent, waxed paper representing water. This makes it so the bodies are mostly “submerged” and slightly obscured, with only some parts above water level. While some of the women appear more peaceful, most appear as though they are shipwrecked and struggling to stay afloat. The works were part of Les Somiants (The Dreamers), an exhibition to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2014. Miguel is from Spain.
