Fredrik Rattzen’s Symbolic, Thought-Provoking Illustrations

Junk Food - Illustration by Fredrik Rattzen

Fredrik Rättzén is an illustrator and painter from Sweden. In these images, Rättzén was inspired by articles about various social justice, political, and health issues.

In one picture, inspired by the sex-trafficking movie Trade, a bunch of girls are shown inside an arcade claw machine.

Greece Blames The Messenger contains a falling carrier pigeon, used to represent a Greek investigative journalist who was arrested for his work.

In two illustrations called 100% Organic and Junk Food, the artist shows an an orange as candy, and a hamburger as a garbage can, urging society to make more healthful food choices.

Some of the illustrations are more colorful, while others are monochromatic. Although the topics and inspirations for these works vary widely, all show a deft hand for symbolism and choosing an appropriate style of art for the subject.
